THE WEEK OF June 25, 2010

Bre Achziger:  Bre had a good week... really settled into a rhythm and worked on front fallin form, even did it on the high board (3M).  She said, "I made myself do it."  Her front and back jumps are to die for.  Working on getting back fallin by herself, and then the sky is the limit.

Josh Barron:  Josh started this week at Metro, and quickly learned the ins and outs of 201c and 301c... that doesn't sound like much, but those are not natural dives for a gymnast... by George, he might just get it, and watch out... most of you don't know his potential like I do... once her learns how to find the outs of a 203c and 303c, 205c and 305c will be a piece of cake... more soon.

Sophie Gordon:  Sophie joined us for this week, and I think we might not see her until August, but we can hope for a week in July... fingers crossed.  She quickly learned new timing on her front and inward initiations, which will hopefully help her in the future on 104c/105c and 403c.  Also, the big thing she got this week (and I hope she remembers it) is a solid 201c and 301c (she even did the 201c and 301b on 3M).  Solid little gal with pretty good mechanics, fingers crossed we see her before August...

Max Hayward:  Wow, what a great week for this guy... he quickly learned a back fallin on 1M, and then the next day, did it without a spot, and even took that dive up to the 3M without problem.  Then on Thursday, he couldn't even pull the trigger... hey, that happens sometimes.  haha  He'll get it back.  He did his first 401c this week, and even got the dive on 3M.  He is a natural form diver with alot of potential....

Nick Halbach:  Nick fought off lack of sleep after a long night of a Rockies game to dive with us Friday morning, after joining us at Metro State on Wednesday and Thursday... he then proceeded to bust my Ghetto 1M stand fix at The Meadows... thanks Nick!!!  He's knocking the rust off after not diving all that much during the last several months (since his return from NCAA Div III Nationals, where he earned his 5th and 6th NCAA All American status).  Good to have him back in Colorado, if only for a short time.  He called me outta a 107c successfully, so he can't be all that bad, huh?

Jimmy Kasic:  Jimmy started diving this week.  He's a mainstay at The Meadows and loves to dive.  This week, he learned the front jump progression and moved quickly into a front fallin and back fallin.  That's a good week, and will continue to progress easily into some tougher stuff.

Madeline Kasic:  Madeline... hmmmm... I wish I would've had Madeline on the diving board before she started swimming at Fairview HS.  She's got a natural knack with diving... first week, all the front jump and back jumps and relaxed into a beautiful front and back fallin on 3M.  She's got an uncanny ability to get onto her head, and has incredible form for a beginner diver... won't be a beginner for long.  Stay tuned.

Simon Latimer:  Simon was on the boards for the first time this week, and what a strong diver he's become under the close watch of Bri Harp, the diving coach at Broomfield HS.  Bri dove for Sagebrush waaaay back when, right Bri?  Anywhoo... Simon backed up to learn a true kick up drill and some mechanical timing changes, and I'll be darned if he didn't learn (on 3 days of diving) 101b/103b/105c/201c/301c/401b/403b/5132d on 3M... after this week, Simon disappears for a couple weeks, but he'll be back.

Cliff Lester:  Another great week for this young superstar!!!  He finally got his 103c, and even got a formed 201c and/or 201b, depending on how much he lifted his legs into the dive.  He's already got a solid 401c on both boards, as well as his 001d and 002d, and will quickly develop into bigger and better dives.

Desi Lester:  Desi had a good week, with learning a 401c and really is nailing her 001d and 002d on 1M.  She smiles more than anyone, and hopefully, she will begin learning some of the bigger dives soon.

Duncan Lester:  Duncan goes away soon for camps, and knowing that his time on the boards was short, he stepped it up.  First, he got his 101c pretty upright, then finally got his 103c!!!  He then proceeded to get the 201c which surprised me, but then on Friday, he lost it.  His 401c's on both 1M and 3M are solid, and he even pulled the trigger on 103c on 3M!!!  That's solid.

Kayla Lee Lucas:  Another big week for Kayla... she was given a little bit of a breather this week, as her Summer started so fast (with both AAU District Championships, where she qualified for AAU Nationals on 1M and 3M; then the following weekend was USAD Region 6 Championships, where she ran into a tough Minnesota contingency, placing 15th on 1M and 9th on 3M.  That qualified her for USAD Zones Championships, but we decided the AAU National meet was a better meet to train for this Summer, so there ya go).  She started some new progressions this week, focussing on 105b/203b/303b, and she got her first 403b on 3M, then proceeded to take it down to 1M.  Her first 403b on 1M was legit 5's!!!  I like that alot... so did she.

Matt Mauser:  Matt comes to us highly recommended by his coaches (Kevin Kricke and Dan Purifoy).  He had a great week training with us this week at Metro, and learned some quick changes in his mechanics and timing on front/inward versus back/reverse initiations.  He also has a favorite dive, I think, a 301c on 3M.  Now that he knows the simple method of SEEING where he kicks his 201c and 301c, he could have a future with those dives.  I tell ya... this kid (who will be a talented freshman this coming Fall for Regis Jesuit HS) will be a solid addition to the year-round diving scene, fingers crossed.

Trevor McCall:  Trevor had all kinds of things going this week.  Dove for 30 mins on Monday before going to Water World with the Swim team.  Sick on Tuesday.  Shoulder hurts, had a breakfast with the team, etc. etc.... before we knew it, it was a short week of work for him.  He did get a new 201c on 3M!!!  and figured out how to spot his 201c and 301c, which is big.  More time on the boards real soon?!!??

Quinn McCulley:  Big week for Quinn... wow!!!  Not only did she do front fallin without a handspot, but she learned a back fallin with a handspot, and then did one without a spot.  I was not only proud of her, but shocked.  That's a big step for this little gal from Arvada.... She really loves to fly, and by golly, she's learning to do it with style.

Erika Petroy:  Erika began to really get dialed in this week, with a 301c on 1M (first week I got to see her pull the trigger, and I think she really might have it).  Her spotting mechanics made huge strides this week, learning to kickup and see the kick on both 201c and 301c; she even pulled the trigger on 201c on 3M!!!  Vedy nice!!!

Callie Smith:  Callie had a short week, too.  She stood up her 101c and 102c on 1M, and got her 401c on 1M... I can't remember if she did that dive on 3M or not (Callie???  Did you???), but if not, she will soon.  Stay tuned.

Kelty Tobin:  Kelty had a strong week, learning 101b/103b, 201c, 301c, 401b, and 5132d on 3M, which is alot of new stuff.  He's also got what Coach Kev calls a 002h ("back hollow" drill) which makes him deadly.

Aidan Williams:  Aidan is back and ready to go.  Both he and his brother took time to get back into the front jump progression and back jumps and then got their 001d and 002d on 1M and 001d on 3M.

Axel Williams:  Axel is back and ready to go.  Both he and his brother took time to get back into the front jump progression and back jumps and then got their 001d and 002d on 1M and 001d on 3M.

Kaylie Young:   Kaylie is back (only one day this week, but it was a good one).  She quickly got her front and back fallins (handspot on 3M with the back fallin...).  She's quite ready for the 002d on 3M with no handspot, and a bunch of new dives...
